Unveiled in September 2022 to commemorate all Scottish Police Dogs, past, present and future, the model for the sculpture was Police Dog Ziggy. The work was created by artist John Doubleday,
There are approximately 200 serving police dogs in Scotland across all serving constabularies, Police Scotland, Military Police, Transport Police and the Civil Nuclear constabulary.
Dogs play a crucial role in local community police work, including finding missing persons, sniffing for drugs and weapons and catching criminals.
PC Carrie-Ann McNab has been fundraising for the memorial, after visiting the UK Police Dog memorial in Chelmsford. A police officer for 16 years, she joined the Police Dog unit eight years ago.
