Following WW2 there occurred the first of many contractions and changes to the structure of the Army from which the Cameronians were not exempt.
Firstly, 1946 saw the disbandment of the 6th and 7th Battalions.
However, in 1947, both were re-formed following a Government decision to re-establish the Territorial Army. Concurrently the 6th & 10th Battalions amalgamated to become the 6th Lanarkshire Battalion
in 1950 the 6th and 7th Battalions were themselves amalgamated to form 6th/7th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) with – HQ at Hamilton and Drill Halls at Motherwell (A Coy), Bothwell (B Coy), Wishaw (D Coy)
Following a Defence White Paper in 1966, The Territorial Army was re-designated The Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve (TAVR). This abolished the former regimental and divisional structure of the Territorial Army and heralded the formation in 1967 of the 52nd Lowland Volunteers through the amalgamation of the territorial Battalions of the infantry Regiments of the former Lowland Brigades.
As a result, The Cameronians 6th/7th Battalion was reduced to company status. in the new the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve (TAVR).
James Douglas Hamilton, who later became a Conservative politician, was a Captain (RARO) in Cameronians Company, 2nd Battalion Lowland Volunteers.https://cameronians.scot/wp-admin/post.php?post=390&action=edit
In 1968 the disbandment of the Regular element of the Regiment left the TAVR element as custodian of all Regimental traditions.
In 1992, the presence of the Cameronians in the TA was effectively ended when D Company was disbanded and No.4 Company re-badged KOSB.
The legacy business of the 6th/7th Battalion is conducted to the present day by a Board of Trustees.
