The sacrifice of those who died as prisoners of war in the Far East during the Second World War was remembered at a special ceremony on Monday 15 August 2022 at the Motherwell Civic Centre.
The ceremony commemorated the end of WW2, when Japanese forces surrendered on August 15, 1945 after the four-year, Far East campaign fought by British, Allied and Commonwealth forces.
The campaign that became known as “the Forgotten War” saw many thousands of men being captured and enduring years of captivity in prisoner of war camps.
The ceremony was attended by 7 members of the Cameronians (SR) Organisation – Mr A Halliday, Mr J Hurles, Mr J Malloy, Mr A Maxwell, Mr R Mitchell (Standard Bearer), Mr J Poulton and Mr D Stark (Piper).
